Parsippany NJ Officially Proclaims September Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

On Tuesday, August 21, 2018 Mayor Soriano and the Town Council officially proclaimed September to be Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Parsippany, NJ.

Why Gold? Why Support Childhood Cancer Awareness?

Although Childhood Cancer is the #2 cause of death among children after accidents, and the #1 cause of disease related death among children, research being done to find treatments and cures is critically underfunded. Less than 4% of the government's national cancer research budget is dedicated to children's cancers even though every day in the United States 43 families will hear those terrible words "your child has cancer."

Knowing these stats, and far more, in 1997 a small group of parents banded together and chose the Gold Ribbon as the emblem for pediatric cancers. Gold, because it's a precious metal, and there is nothing more precious than our children. Gold also because it represents the strength and courage demonstrated every day by the children and families who are impacted by this disease.

Support from Parsippany

No child should have to fight cancer alone. And here in Parsippany, TEAMSean and the other families who fight alongside us, or have fought before us, have always felt the love and support of the local community, and appreciated the attention and dedications shown by the Town and it's elected, appointed and hired officials.

Residents, Council members, Mayors, Principals, Teachers, Football, Baseball, Wrestling, Cheer-leading and Soccer Programs, First Responders, Local Business Owners, the Media and so many more have shown their support and dedicated their time and attention to helping local families over and over and over again, and it never goes unnoticed or unappreciated! We feel that love and that support, and we cherish it.

We are so thankful for the town's support and the official proclamation presented to us last night.

#GoGold in September!

It's easy.

Support these children and so many others across the country who are battling one of the 12 different types (with hundreds of sub-types!) of pediatric cancers that exist today.

We have a shop set up on line where you can buy a yard sign, ribbon, lapel pin, temporary tattoo, socks, helmet decal, t-shirt, bracelet or hair bow just to name a few of the items available. Proceeds benefit the Children's Brain Tumor Family Foundation (CBTFF), an organization we helped found in 2015 to fund the research being done by Sean's doctors at the Children's Brain Tumor Project at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City.

You don't have to spend money to support the cause though. Just tell a story, talk about it. Wear something gold you already own, paint your nails gold, or show your support on social media by using the hash tag #GoGold and sharing the posts you find on the TEAMSean or CBTFF pages.

Your support makes a difference! Its takes a village and we are immensely proud of, appreciative and humbled by our village, Parsippany, NJ.

Thank you all for your support!

Brenda Ries
